ABOUT ME!

This is the page where you can find info all about who I am, my professional and educational background and the stuff that interest me outside of Game Dev!

Hello!

My name is Jack Maddigan and I am from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in Ontario, Canada. I have been working professionally as a Game Developer for nearly Four years (since early 2022), having graduated from Niagara College's Game Development program in the Spring of 2020.

I began as a 3D Artist in school; creating game props and building environments inspired by my favourite Indie and AAA franchises; but have since pivoted to a more programming-oriented role, with side-quests of technical and UI art implementation. Make no mistake though, when I get the chance to world build, I take it; it's still one of my most favourite things to do as part of my job!

I have enjoyed video games since I was child, with them having forged core memories for me; from the Gameboy and Windows XP days, all the way to the Wii era and beyond. Near the end of High School, I  took a spur-of-the-moment leap into Game Development; being initially indecisive between programming, and computer engineering as a post-secondary career path. It surely did not disappoint!

I now desire to make cool games that make others feel the same way that I did when I was a kid; regardless of age. I am always up for a challenge and enjoy solving problems, if it means making something both I and others will find super cool. I do my best when I can rally with the members of my team, and I hope to join yours, to make a kick-ass product!

Things that Interest Me!

I am a big fan of classic Nintendo, and like to collect historic and other interesting or unique pieces from the company that shaped a large portion of my childhood!

I am also really into Space and Space Travel, with the possibility of expanding human consciousness to other planets in our universe. On the flipside, I think flamethrowers and cars are pretty neat!

I really enjoy model railroading, and I am part of a club which travels to other towns; to combine our pool of layout modules with other clubs', to create massive displays for multiple-day events!

I previously played Ice Hockey for 5 years, and as mentioned prior, I am from the Greater Toronto Area, so I am unfortunately a Maple Leafs fan.  ノ(ಠ_ಠノ)

My Toolbox

I currently specialize in Unity Engine, which I have been using since 2017. I have used it in all my games work, from personal projects and Game Jams, to my most recent industry title.

I am versed in skills from level building, keyframe animation and light technical art, to construction and implementation of core game systems via script, as well as custom UI building and programming.

Almost all of my code has been done through C# in Microsoft Visual Studio, which I have been coding with  since the latter end of 2015; starting with Game Maker Studio.

All assets and environments I have previously had a hand in making, have all been modeled, UV-Unwrapped and animated using 3D Studio MAX, with some help from Blender. All texture work was done using Substance Library, with support from Photoshop.

I am setting my sights next on learning Unreal Engine 5, and refreshing my knowledge of C++, to unlock flexibility with regards to programming and engines.
